How to Fix a Broken Acrylic Nail
Assessing the Damage
The first step is to assess the extent of the damage. Is it a minor chip or has the acrylic broken through and exposed your natural nail?
Minor Chips
If the damage is minor, you can simply file and buff the acrylic nail to smooth out the edge. Use a fine-grit file and buffing block to avoid further damage.
Exposed Natural Nail
If the acrylic has broken through and exposed your natural nail, you will need to remove the damaged acrylic. You can do this by gently prying it off with a cuticle pusher or nail art brush. Be careful not to damage your natural nail.
Cutting and Filing
Once you have assessed the damage and removed any broken acrylic, you can begin cutting and filing the nail.
If the break is near the tip of the nail, you can simply cut the damaged portion off. Use sharp nail clippers and make a straight cut across the nail.
If the break is closer to the cuticle, you will need to file the broken edge down. Use a fine-grit file and file in the same direction as the nail grows.
Applying a New Layer of Acrylic
If the damage is extensive, you may need to apply a new layer of acrylic to repair the nail.
To do this, you will need acrylic powder, liquid monomer, and a nail brush.
Mix a small amount of acrylic powder and liquid monomer in a dappen dish. Use the nail brush to apply a thin layer of the mixture to the damaged area.
Allow the acrylic to dry completely before filing and buffing it to smooth out the surface.
